Description
Dimensions:
10 cm x 10 cm
Indications:
The Aquacel Extra om Hydrofyber dressing with reinforcing fiber is a soft and sterile dressing, in non-woven fabric, consisting of sodium carboxymethylcellulose and regenerated cellulose fiber for greater resistance. This highly absorbent and comfortable dressing absorbs wound fluids and transforms into a soft gel that maintains the moist environment necessary to promote healing processes and aids in the removal of dead wound tissue (autolytic debridement) without damaging the tissue newly formed.
Features:
The dressing can be used for the management of:
- Lower limb ulcers, pressure ulcers (stage II-IV) and diabetic foot ulcers.
- Surgical wounds (e.g. post-operative wounds, wounds left to heal by secondary intention and skin sampling areas)
- Partial thickness burns
- Traumatic wounds (e.g. abrasions and lacerations)
- Absorption of exiduate in cancer ulcers (eg skin myotic tumors, skin metastases and Kaposi's sarcome)
How to use:
Exiduating wounds (excluding partial thickness burns):
- Before applying the dressing, clean the wound area with an appropriate cleanser.
- The Aquacel Extra Hydrophyber Dressing with Reinforcing Fiber should extend beyond the wound area by at least 1 cm.
- Apply the dressing to the wound and cover with a secondary dressing that retains moisture.
- All wounds should be inspected frequently. Remove dressing when clinically indicated (e.g. leaking fluid, excessive bleeding, suspected infection)
- The dressing can be left in place for up to 7 days where clinically indicated (except in burns and donor areas where it can be left in place for up to 14 days.
Dry wounds, in addition to the above usage instructions:
- Place the dressing over the wound and moisten it with sterile water or saline only over the wound area
- Cover the dressing with a secondary dressing that keeps the environment moist to prevent the dressing from drying out and consequently adhering to the wound.
Partial thickness burns:
- Before applying the dressing, cleanse the wound with an appropriate cleanser
- The Aquacel Extra dressing should extend up to 5 cm over the skin surrounding the burn or over other adjacent dressings as the dressing shrinks as the moisture absorbs.
- The dressing should be covered with a properly secured sterile woven gauze pad. In the period immediately following the occurrence of the burn (up to 4 days), large amounts of wound exidue may require the dressing to be removed and replaced with a new dressing.
- Periodically remove the cover dressing and inspect the Aqucel Extra dressing while it remains in place on the burn
- Adhesion of the dressing to the wound bed is a desirable feature in this indication. Non-adhesion of parts of the dressing could indicate a deeper burn or infection. These parts of the dressing could be cut out to facilitate settling. The exposed areas should then be treated properly.
- As soon as the burn re-epithelialises, the dressing comes off or is easily removable.
- In partial thickness burns and donor sites, the dressing can be left in place for up to 14 days or as clinically indicated.
- If the burn is infected, frequent inspection of the wound may be required.
